Alameda County Alliance for Arts Learning Leadership

The Alliance for Arts Learning Leadership, founded by the Alameda County Office of Education in 1999, is a broad-based community network of classroom teachers, school and district administrators, parents, school board members, artists, arts organizations, higher education, youth and community members who work together to ensure a high quality education through arts and arts-integrated learning for every child in every school, every day.

Over the past ten years, the Alliance for Arts Learning Leadership has helped schools and districts support culturally responsive, arts-integrated learning. Cultivating teachers and teaching artists as professionals has been at the forefront of the work.

In a network of 42 schools, these educators are demonstrating how an arts-integrated, interdisciplinary curriculum captures the attention of even the hardest-to-reach students, and helps bring out their best as disciplined, creative, reflective and critical thinkers in all their subjects.

The Alliance’s work has been featured in national reports: The Qualities of Quality: Understanding Excellence in Arts Education (2009) and Revitalizing Arts Education Through Community-wide Collaborations (2008), both commissioned by the Wallace Foundation.
