Green FairACOE hosts energy, recycling, transportation and other service providers who provide information on how to “be green” at work and at home. Participants receive information regarding e-waste, recycling, energy savings, and more. The event is free and open to the public.

Breast Cancer Walk The Bay Area Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event is a noncompetitive walk that unites people of all ages with the common goal to fight breast cancer and save lives. Team ACOE annually participates and contributes to the cause.

Reading/Language Arts and Intervention Materials FairDistrict and school personnel are invited to attend a materials fair for all state board adopted reading/language arts and intervention programs including those specially designed for English learners. Educators will have the opportunity to view all state board adopted reading/language arts and intervention programs, meet directly with publisher representatives, and attend publisher presentations.

Season of Service Period of PeaceA collaborative project of the Alameda County Office of Education and the San Leandro Unified School District, it involves a 10-week student-led effort to activate principles of non-violence, as practiced by Cesar Chavez. The program involves student-produced multimedia projects addressing issues of nonviolence.

The Alameda County Mock Trial Competition Mock Trial a countywide high school criminal trial competition designed to demystify and increase understanding of our judicial system and the processes necessary as we strive to create a just society. Student teams of ten to twenty students study a hypothetical case, conduct legal research and receive individual coaching by volunteer attorneys in trial preparation, courtroom protocol, courtroom procedure, analytical skills, and communication skills. Preparation begins in the fall and culminates in grueling elimination-rounds over four weeks of competition in February. The winning team represents Alameda County at the state competition in March.

Art IS Education MonthArt IS Education hosts a month-long series of performing arts events and art demonstrations throughout Alameda County schools. The events are spearheaded by The Alliance for Arts Learning Leadership, a project founded by the Alameda County Office of Education. It is a collaborative network of teachers, artists, administrators, arts organizations, higher education, parents and community members, working together to ensure the essential role of the arts to create outstanding and equitable classrooms.

History DayHistory Day in California is a statewide program sponsored by Constitutional Rights Foundation in conjunction with National History Day. History Day is an exciting, history-based learning experience for students in grades 4 through 12. Students present their works around a pre-selected theme.

ACOE Spelling Bee CompetitionACOE Spelling Bee Competition All Alameda County public school districts are invited to send their students to the county wide championship. The top two competitors move on to the state finals. Event sponsored by the Alameda County Office of Education.
